How do I see myself

I can look in the mirror three times in one day and see a different person or version of myself looking back at me.

Have you ever had moments when looking at someone you love dearly, that they appear ugly, but then at another instance could be completely beautiful?

Our eyes are part of the sensory system, which receives information from inside and outside our bodies to help us understand the world around us. This process of receiving information from all our sensory systems is called perception. Our whole body is a Sense organ. Our perception receives thousands of messages at any given moment. All the received information goes to a central part of the brain that sifts through and organises it.

Influence on perceptions can be by the seasons, hormones, emotions, mood, humidity, current affairs, and our comparison to others, to name a few.

When we look at a person, we see the parts of them that we like, for example, Nice eyes, a warm smile, and shapely legs. We also perceive people by how they project themself, such as a confident person will be more attractive than someone shy. When looking at another person, you often see what you admire and would like to have.

However, if you look at yourself, you focus on all the things you do not admire or want to change.

If the day is grey, you haven't slept properly, you have been procrastinating, and you feel low. How will you see yourself? However, at the same time, how will you see other people? Negative.

Perhaps the day is grey, you have a holiday in Spain soon, you are feeling low and procrastinating, but you won't see that as a negative. Why? Because the positive is the holiday, it's something uplifting and that you are looking forward to.

Considering the above examples and adding various combinations of internal and external factors, we can see numerous influences on our perceptions and outcomes.

When you look in the mirror or at another person, whether you love them or not, these factors influence your perception of how you feel about them.

The way we perceive life and life's challenges follows along similar lines.

It's good to remember that your feelings influence your mood and behaviour. They are only communications from your perception and will change continually.

Feelings can be there to guide you. However, first, you need to understand your body, how it works and what your body is saying to you. When your feelings are understood, from your viewpoint, along with your passions in life, they can guide you to make positive decisions and forward movements in life.
